Flourishing
The condition of living well in a way that is more than the absence of suffering.
What it commits you to
Flourishing names the positive account of a good life that a purely negative ethics — freedom from pain, preference satisfaction — cannot deliver. Sen's capability version is the one that survives translation into policy, since it can be operationalised as what a person is actually able to do and be. It is also the standard against which hedonic optimisation systems look quietly impoverished.
Which realms lean on this
Ethics is where the realms argue about what counts: the parties, the pleasures, the duties, the care.
