Ren
Humaneness: responsiveness to the particular person in front of you.
What it commits you to
Ren is the virtue Confucius treats most often and analyses least. It appears as care for people, as the capacity to be considerate, and as the quality that makes conduct exemplary. It is relational and situational rather than a rule, which is why it resists being turned into an objective — and why systems optimising a scalar struggle to represent it at all.
