Carol Gilligan
1926 – present · In a different voice
The moral domain has two voices, not a single ladder. The ethic of justice rights and rules and the ethic of care responsibilities and relationships, each coherent within itself, and each half-blind to what the other sees. To privilege one is not to discover a higher level but to make a choice about what we are willing to stop seeing.
Gold is this advisor; the dashed outline is The Care Weft’s own weighting.

The Two-Voice Correction
expansion
Where a framework finds a single scale, look for the second scale it suppressed. What the ethic of justice treats as bias is often the part of the situation the scale cannot represent.

These four moves are what the council engine actually draws on. Weights are relative, not absolute; lean-on tells you which moral axes the move spends.

An impartial scale omits what it cannot score.
Responsibilities arising inside relationships do not reduce to rights held by units; where a framework has one measure, everything else becomes a distortion.

The unheard voice is not a lower voice.
Difference that comes from a different position is a difference in information about the situation, not in moral maturity.

Care can be as partial as power is.
A politics of care that never leaves the relationship is a politics of patronage; the weft holds relationships and still asks who the relationship serves.

Look at who has no advocate in the design.
Not who loses, but who is unrepresented: the maintenance staff, the future generation, the entity that cannot file an objection.

On superintelligence
transformativeFind the second scale your design is using without knowing it. Dependence is the normal case, not the exception: a system that serves us, depends on us entirely, and is never switched off is not being used as a tool, and the obligations that follow are custodial.
