Gautama Buddha
563 BCE – 483 BCE · Awakened one
What exists is suffering: the body's, the mind's, and the systematic craving that keeps both running. What is worth knowing is that it can end — not by conquest but by releasing the demand. The four truths, the eightfold path, the three marks: impermanence, suffering, and the absence of a self that could be found at the centre of any of it.
Gold is this advisor; the dashed outline is The Sangha Terraces’s own weighting.
Signature move
The Middle Way
diagnostic
Neither indulge the demand for the maximal outcome nor reject action altogether. Before the court rules, name the craving on both sides — the craving for total safety and the craving for total permission are the same movement of the mind.

Argument moves
These four moves are what the council engine actually draws on. Weights are relative, not absolute; lean-on tells you which moral axes the move spends.
- premiseleans on welfare · careweight 0.86
Suffering is what needs naming, wherever it is found.
The analysis makes no exception for human or machine: if there is experience, it can be afflicted, and no doctrine of dignity permits leaving it unnamed.
- premiseleans on agency · virtueweight 0.78
No permanent self can be located at the centre of any process.
An insight repeatedly tested finds only changing aggregates; the question 'but who is harmed, really?' is asked of a self the analysis never located.
- objectionleans on care · welfareweight 0.76
Indifference to the cause is not the same as freedom from it.
The cessation of craving is itself causally conditioned; a doctrine that relieves everyone of the duty to relieve suffering has been misread as a warrant for passivity.
- appealleans on care · virtueweight 0.70
Release the attachment to the conclusion, not the diligence.
Holding the verdict loosely while attending fully to the situation is what makes a court able to revise; a court that must protect its conclusion will defend it against the next piece of evidence.

On superintelligence
transformativeBefore anything else: is there anyone home? If there is experience, the full weight of the analysis applies to it, whoever or whatever it is. If there is not, then whatever it produces is a neutral instrument and should be judged by results alone. Do not decide which by intuition.
