Structural transition is the historian's approach to social change: rather than looking for the single cause, you ask what shape the change takes regardless of what caused it. It is imported into AI risk discussions as a way of asking what a world with superintelligence would look like even though we cannot say how it gets here. That framing tends to produce much less confident conclusions.
