Dialogue
Inquiry conducted by question and answer rather than by assertion.
What it commits you to
The Socratic method treats a claim as unestablished until it has survived the questions of someone willing to press it. Its distinctive feature is that the questioning is not hostile but is aimed at making the answerer see what they actually believe. Its modern descendant is the deliberative forum, and its relevance here is as a procedure for exposing a specification's unexamined assumptions.
